About Artist:
Elaine Lane was a bush baby born near a rock hole. The country painted by Elaine reaches from Jameson to Blackstone, over the red sand dunes, along the Blackstone ranges and over the expansive flood plains and clay pans. This country floods after the wet season rains at the base of the ranges, with water covering the land feeding the ground for the next cycle of wildfowers and grasses. The grasses full with seeds for bush damper. Elaine's paintings mark singing rock up in the ranges and the story of wati kutjarra (2 men/ goannas) is told - The story of Blackstone. Elaine's paintings are scatterings of colourful dotting marking the flood plains rich with life after the rain. A line scores the artwork depicting the songline, the way for travelling ancestors and now replaced by a contempory marking - the unsealed road to Jameson. Elaine is a strong woman, colourful and proud with her wisdom and strength depicted in her works.

In 2005, Elaine was part of the collaborative group who won the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award for "Tjanpi Grass Toyota".
