This story is about Helen's grandfather, Harry Liman Morgan. He was the most important tribal man in the group of people who lived at Bulgul, north of the Daly river mouth. Being a sea-based indigenous culture, it was incumbent upon Liman to understand all the subtleties of the sea: its moods, when to fish and, most importantly, how to build a canoe that would take the fisherman through the worst weather. Helen proudly tells us that grandpa Liman was the best canoe builder north of the Daly. The painting depicts canoes that Liman built going out to sea, and was completed in Darwin NT, in 2007.
