About Artist:
Patrick Tjungurrayi was born near Jupiter Well in Western Australia in c.1935. Currently living between Balgo and Kiwirrkurra, Patrick previously walked out of the desert by following the Canning Stock Route. He is a highly regarded artist who won the prestigious Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards in 2008 with his depiction of scrub fire in his Gibson Desert homeland. For the past five years, Patrick has been one of Australia's most collectible artists, with works selling for $40,000.
'If contemporary Aboriginal art has become renowned for its flickering, optical power, then Patrick Tjungurrayi would have to be described as a master of the form. His works pulse with desert warmth and where all too much Aboriginal art on the market appears to be a pastiche of traditional forms to capture a bewildered and naive market, Tjungurrayi's work is both unique in structure and indisputably heart-felt." Australian Art Collector Magazine 2005.
