| This painting shows Ronnie's depiction of "Fire Dreaming" which is an important dreaming for the Pintupi men. It shows men's body paint designs associated with the Bushfire dreaming. These designs are applied to the upper torso for the ceremony. In this Dreaming, Lungkata sent his sons out hunting for food, but instead of bringing their prize kangaroo back to their father's camp, the sons ate it all themselves; Lungkata sensed what they had done and was determined to punish them; once he saw his sons returning in the distance he picked up a fire stick and held it to a spinifex bush, which immediately exploded into flames; although the boys tried desperately to stop the rapidly spreading fire with broken tree branches it eventually out-ran them and both sons perished in its path; Lungkata punished his own sons not only for not sharing the kangaroo but for eating sacred portions usually reserved for more senior men. |
