This on line exhibition presents an eclectic range of black, white and grey Aboriginal Artworks executed in diverse styles from fine patterning to strong and striking images. Some were commissioned by our gallery from well known artists who do not usually paint in black and white. Many are excellent collector's items and there is a wide range of sizes and prices.
Gallerist and artist Kate Owen travelled to the Northern Territory to commission many of these works which were specially painted for this exhibition by artists Kudditji Kngwarreye, George Ward Tjungarrayi, Willy Tjungarrayi, Fabrianne Nampitjinpa Peterson, Betty Mbitjana and Makinti Napanangka, who recently won the coveted Telstra Art Award for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
Also included are paintings by widely acclaimed artists Dorothy Napangardi, Lily Kelly Napangardi, Mitjili Napurrula, Rosemary Petyarre and Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri. These artists have become increasingly successful, with their works featured in many of the main galleries and collections around Australia and throughout the world.
Works by emerging artists including Sarita King, Clarice Morgan Nungarrayi, Trephina Sultan and Lilly Napangardi Campbell are also exhibited.
The exhibition incorporates paintings ranging from affordable through to collectible and investment pieces. At the same time, it offers a fascinating mix of technique, story and approach, revealing a diverse cross-section of contemporary indigenous art.
