Betty Pumani is the daughter of Milatjari Pumani. Betty was raised in Mimili, went to school there and worked at the local store, the clinic and at the art centre. Betty has four other siblings: Michael, Luey, Ngupulya and Ken.

Betty married a local man, Litja Brown with whom she has two children, Marina and Max.

Betty started painting in 1996, her paintings are a mix of figurative and traditional pattern and stories. Betty's paintings often depict a trip to country to gather bush tucker and meat, such as kangaroo, emu, sand goanna, perentie and rabbit.
