Lisa Nampijinpa Cook

DOB: 1970
Born: Yeulamu, NT
LANGUAGE GROUP: Warlpiri
COMMUNITY: Yeulamu and Yuendumu,NT

Lisa was born at Yeulamu (also known as Mt Allan Station), a remote Aboriginal community roughly 70km south of Yuendumu on the Tanami track. She attended the local school and then volunteered at the local Women's Centre. Since 2000 Lisa has worked as an assistant teacher at the Junior Primary School in Yeulamu.

Painting has always been a part of Lisa's life. Her father, Jack Jangala Cook, and mother Edna are well-respected artists from Mt Allan. She learnt to paint from her parents and started painting in earnest in 2012 when she began painting with Warlkurlangu art centre.

Her love for learning inspired her to participate in a Mt Allan Workshop run by Warlukurlangu Art Centre. She paints her Mother's Yarla Jukurrpa (Bush Potato Dreaming) and her Father's Yankirri Jukurrpa (Emu Dreaming). Her artworks are exceptionally detailed and beautifully executed.

When Lisa's not working or painting, she likes to go hunting with her family for honey ants and goanna.
