Maria Marrar

Born 5th August 1964, Maria Marrar is the youngest of four sisters and grew up at Daly River, approximately 270kms south-west of Darwin. Her father was originally from Ngukurr and her mother from Maningrida Outstation. She attended St Francis Xavier Primary School, Daly River, and then went on to attend St John's College, Darwin, in her senior years.

She has four children of her own but now looks after one of her grandchildren in Darwin where she now resides. Maria started painting at Daly River a number of years ago with the Merrepen Arts Centre but has only until recently been given an opportunity to continue in this space with Kate Owen Gallery. She enjoys telling her stories and experiences through her artwork and wants to continue sharing her knowledge.
