About Kate Owen Gallery
Kate Owen Gallery is the premier destination for Australian Aboriginal art, celebrated for its extensive and diverse collection. Each artwork brings the depth of the world’s oldest continuing culture into your space, creating a presence that resonates.
Established in 2007, our gallery has grown to become one of the largest retail Indigenous art galleries in Australia. We are dedicated to showcasing the richness and vibrancy of Aboriginal culture through contemporary art, with a focus on authenticity and respect for the artists.
Our gallery has fostered generations of artists - such as Kudditji Kngwarreye, Helen McCarthy Tyalmuty, Tarisse and Sarrita King - and has played a key role in shaping Australia’s Aboriginal art market. Our collection spans the trailblazing Pintupi Nine, alongside industry masters like Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Tommy Watson, bridging the past and present of Aboriginal art.

Our Story
Founded by Kate Owen, the gallery initially served as a studio and space for her own works. However, as Kate’s passion for Aboriginal art grew, so did the gallery's focus. In 2013, Geoff Henderson, a longtime collaborator and art supplier, took over the gallery, merging it with his own studio in Alice Springs. This move created Australia's largest vertically integrated Aboriginal art studio and gallery, enhancing our ability to support and promote Indigenous artists.
2021 marked the start of an exciting new chapter for the gallery, as Geoff announced his succession plan and we welcomed a new Gallery Director to the team, Jack Henderson. Jack is Geoff’s nephew and worked in Alice Springs during the early days of the studio, surrounded by some of the great artists of the Aboriginal art movement.

Kate Owen Gallery continues to hold artist workshops in Alice Springs as well as continuing to enjoy productive working relationships with independent artists and Indigenous owned, remote art centres from around the country.
The Kate Owen Gallery Commitment to Art and Ethics
At Kate Owen Gallery, Aboriginal art is valued not only for its visual beauty but for the stories, traditions, and heritage each piece embodies. Every work in our collection is selected with care, so it enhances your home while honouring the integrity of its creation. We see the true strength of Aboriginal art in the connection it fosters - between the viewer, the artist, and the ancient stories of the Australian landscape.
To "buy with the heart," we believe peace of mind is essential. As proud members of the Aboriginal Art Association of Australia (AAAA) and supporters of the Aboriginal Art Code, Jack and Geoff are deeply committed to upholding the highest ethical standards. Geoff has long contributed to shaping the industry through his board service, and Jack continues this legacy today, working to ensure authenticity, integrity, and respect remain at the heart of the Aboriginal art market.
