About-new

Welcome to Kate Owen Gallery

Kate Owen Gallery is a premier destination for Australian Aboriginal art, celebrated for its extensive and diverse collection. Established in 2007, our gallery has grown to become one of the largest commercial Indigenous art galleries in Australia. We are dedicated to showcasing the richness and vibrancy of Aboriginal culture through contemporary art, with a focus on authenticity and respect for the artists.

Our Story

Founded by Kate Owen, the gallery initially served as a studio and space for her own works. However, as Kate’s passion for Aboriginal art grew, so did the gallery's focus. In 2013, Geoff Henderson, a longtime collaborator and art supplier, took over the gallery, merging it with his own studio in Alice Springs. This move created Australia's largest vertically integrated Aboriginal art studio and gallery, enhancing our ability to support and promote Indigenous artists.

2021 marked the start of an exciting new chapter for the gallery, as Geoff announced his succession plan and we welcomed a new Gallery Director to the team, Jack Henderson. Jack is Geoff’s nephew and worked in Alice Springs during the early days of the studio, surrounded by some of the great artists of the Aboriginal art movement. Kate Owen Gallery continues to hold artist workshops in Alice Springs as well as productive working relationships with independent artists and Indigenous owned, remote art centres from around the country.
